The Mess We Made is an addictive, will-they-won't-they debut love story that explores the complexities of first love and the possibility of second chances, written by Megan O'Neill. Quin and Henry's lives have been intertwined since they first met as children. Quickly becoming inseparable, they navigated the tumultuous waters of adolescence together until one fateful night and a single bad decision shattered their bond. Their idyllic relationship came to an abrupt end, leaving scars on both their hearts. Years later, Quin finds herself trapped in a monotonous routine, working at a local takeaway. Her life is far from what she had imagined; she is estranged from her twin brother Josh and barely coping with her mother's degenerative disease—a condition that Quin fears she might inherit. She hasn't spoken to Henry since he left town nine years ago, carrying with him the remnants of their shared past. Just as Quin begins to accept the stagnancy of her existence, Henry unexpectedly returns. Despite the years and the silence, Henry's presence stirs old feelings in Quin, and she finds herself drawn to him once more. However, his reappearance also unearths a deep secret Quin has guarded for almost a decade, raising questions about whether she can trust Henry not to disappear again once he knows the truth. If you are a fan of the millennial angst and deeply engaging narratives found in Normal People, the raw emotional appeal of It Ends With Us, or the evocative storytelling of Daisy Jones and the Six, you will be captivated by the profound and poignant journey of Quin and the enigmatic Henry. Discover whether Quin and Henry can overcome their past and build a future in The Mess We Made, a heart-wrenching and beautifully written novel about love, loss, and the intricate dance between the two.

About the Author

Megan O'Neill grew up in the small rural town of Waiau Pa, overlooking the Manukau Harbour in Auckland. She now lives in Christchurch, enjoying the wild nature on her doorstep and everything else the South Island has to offer. In her debut novel The Mess We Made, she was inspired to write characters who were messy, raw and real.
