Our Moon by Rebecca Boyle is a mesmerising exploration of Earth's celestial companion, the Moon, and its profound influence on life and civilization throughout history. This beautifully written book intertwines science, history, and human curiosity, providing readers with a captivating narrative that spans from the dawn of time to our current and future explorations of space.

Boyle's narrative begins with the Moon's role in the development of early life on Earth. She describes how the Moon, through its gravitational pull, created tides that were crucial for the sustenance of early life forms. As we progressed from prehistoric times to the era of early human civilizations, the Moon became integral in the division of time, guiding agricultural practices and inspiring mythology and art.

The book delves into the moonlit paths of ancient astronomers who painstakingly charted the Moon’s movements and used it to predict events, thus laying the groundwork for modern science. Boyle presents the revolutionary contributions of Copernicus and Galileo, whose studies of the Moon challenged and ultimately transformed human understanding of our place in the universe.

One of the most riveting parts of Our Moon recounts the thrilling saga of the 1969 Apollo landings. Boyle brings these historic events to life with vivid storytelling, highlighting the scientific breakthroughs and human bravery that made such an achievement possible. She also gives a nod to the writers and artists who have been eternally inspired by the Moon, showing how it has permeated culture in multifaceted ways.

As mankind stands on the brink of returning to the Moon, Boyle speculates on the potential future where the Moon could unlock new frontiers. This includes possibilities in scientific discovery, economic opportunities, and even geopolitical shifts as nations race to stake their claims in space. In this context, Our Moon serves not only as a tale of historical significance but also as a clarion call for future explorations.

Acclaimed by renowned voices in science and literature, Our Moon has garnered high praise:

"Superb: as much a feat of imagination as it is a work of globe-trotting scholarship."
