The Dogs of Riga
Wallander travels across the Baltic Sea, to Riga in Latvia, where he is plunged into a frozen, alien world of police surveillance, scarcely veiled threats, and lies.
Doomed always to be one step behind the shadowy figures he pursues, only Wallander's obstinate desire to see that justice is done brings the truth to light.
It is winter and Inspector Kurt Wallander receives an anonymous tip-off; two days later, a life raft washes up on a beach, in it lie two men, both shot dead

DescriptionIn the chilling depths of a Swedish winter in 1991, Inspector Kurt Wallander is confronted with a perplexing case when he receives an anonymous tip-off. Days later, a life raft carrying two elegantly dressed but lifeless men washes ashore. Both victims are found to have been shot dead at close range, dressed in expensive suits, hinting at connections to organised crime. At first glance, the case seems straightforward—perhaps a gangland execution.
However, what appears to be an open-and-shut investigation soon takes a dark and complex turn. In his pursuit of justice, Wallander is drawn across the icy waters of the Baltic Sea to the city of Riga in Latvia. Here, he steps into an unfamiliar and almost surreal world replete with constant surveillance, hidden threats, and a treacherous web of lies. The unfamiliar frozen landscape and the rigid political backdrop of post-Soviet Latvia intensify the sense of isolation and danger.
In Riga, Wallander finds himself entangled in a grim labyrinth of corruption and deceit. Every step forward seems met with obstacles, as elusive and shadowy figures always stay a step ahead. Despite the constant threat and his foreign surroundings, Wallander's relentless determination to uncover the truth and deliver justice propels him deeper into this mystery.
The Dogs of Riga is an engrossing and atmospheric addition to Henning Mankell's acclaimed Kurt Wallander Series. The novel explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the murky depths of human morality, all set against the stark and unforgiving backdrop of a frigid Scandinavian winter. Readers will find themselves captivated by Wallander's unyielding quest for truth in a world where appearances are deceiving and justice is as elusive as smoke.
For fans of crime fiction, The Dogs of Riga offers not just a gripping narrative but also an evocative exploration of a man confronting the harsh realities of life in pursuit of justice. Wallander’s journey through the frozen streets of Riga is a testament to the complexities of human nature and the perpetual struggle to uncover the truth.
