DescriptionKings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames is a rollicking tale of adventure, camaraderie, and redemption. This epic fantasy novel unfolds in a world where mercenary bands are hailed as rock stars, their exploits sung in the highest tales across the lands.
Clay "Slowhand" Cooper, once revered as a formidable member of the legendary mercenary group Saga, finds himself entrenched in a mundane, retired life, his glory days far behind him. The once-dreaded warriors of Saga have drifted apart, succumbing to the ravages of time—age, weight, and indulgence have left their marks.
However, Clay's past catches up with him when his old bandmate Gabriel, now a desperate father, arrives with a plea for aid. Gabriel's daughter, Rose, is trapped in the city of Castia, which is under siege by a monstrous enemy horde, teeming with deadly creatures numbering a hundred thousand strong. The stakes are insurmountably high, and the odds of success are slim, but to save Rose, Gabriel needs the old band to reunite for one last tour.
The journey across the ominous expanse of the Heartwyld is fraught with peril at every turn. Clay must persuade his former comrades—each now a shadow of their former selves—to shake off the dust of their retired lives and take up arms once more. It’s a quest that demands the very essence of heroism and foolish valour, a mission that will see the fallen legends rise again to reclaim their former glory and carve their names into the annals of history one last time.
Filled with pulse-pounding action, laugh-out-loud humour, and moments of deep poignancy, Kings of the Wyld is a love letter to the fantasy genre, celebrating the enduring human spirit and the bonds forged in the crucible of shared adversity. It's a saga of old warriors, unlikely friendships, and the eternal struggle for one last chance at greatness.
