Hauntings
Hauntings by Neil Oliver takes readers on a captivating journey through the British Isles, exploring the history of its most haunted places. Oliver seeks to unpick why these houses, landmarks, and other eerie places have such an unsettling effect on us.
For longer than recorded history, there have been tales of spirits and locations where our hackles rise and our skin turns cold.
Bestselling historian Neil Oliver embarks on a deliciously spine-chilling tour that spans several centuries. This journey explores more than 20 sites - castles, vicarages, towers, lonely shorelines, and forgotten battlefields - to delve into their mysterious stories.
Oliver weaves his own family's history with that of past kings and queens as he investigates why our emotions and senses are heightened in certain places where the boundary between dimensions feels gossamer thin.
The landscape of the British Isles is filled with these locations, creaking under the weight of the secrets they hold, echoes of tragedy, and dark deeds. From Inverness to Devon, Co Dublin to Norfolk, Hauntings casts an enjoyably eerie glow with stories that, passed down from generation to generation, are inextricably linked to their settings.
These narratives, told time and again, reveal why they continue to matter.
