I found the last couple a tad disappointing but the Child brothers seem to have found their stride with this one. Despite the sometimes quite graphic fights, the Reacher novels are great relaxing reads because you know Jack will be back again in the next book! I felt him weighing up his moves more carefully this time. He is aging and opponents are usually fit and younger. Also, there was no fleeting โloveโ interest for Jack. A quick, satisfying adventure but this readerโs interest is starting to wane.
This is described as Taylor Jenkins Reid meets The Crown and I absolutely agree! It's a really engaging and life like novel about a young princess and having to choose between her role in the monarchy, and her life in Tasmania. The narrative is woven together across her past and present expertly, and the ending felt incredibly satisfying. It's hard to believe this isn't a real account of the Royals - and as someone who has never been interested in the lives of the Royals before I found myself absolutely gripped my the drama and the family dynamics.
Another Christmas gift for hubby ! He says his coffee making skills have vastly improved thanks to this wee book so a HUGE thank from me too !
Christmas gift for hubby !
He LOVES it !
We have started Friday Night Cocktails because of this book .. :-)
Thank you
I brought 4 copies of the Common Worship Lectionary for the team of service personnel at our Co- operating church in Turangi . This makes it easier for those preparing their service each week.
I was impressed with the content for each day and the spiral back making it easier to use. The only issue we all had was the size of the print used making reading harder for those with sight problems and the lighter print compared to previous years meaning the words seem to fade into the page rather than stand out. However soon sorted with the help of a magnifying glass ,no offence its that we all fall into the senior age.
Despite my thoughts i can guaranty I will be buying the same amount next time as a happy team makes my life better. Thank you.
The box set is the way to buy this series, that way you can dive in to the next book straight after finishing the previous.
Until now, I had read Sarah J Maas' other series but not this one. Throne of Glass might be Maas' easiest series to "get into" out of the three. The pacing is great, and so are the characters.
This was an addictive read set in 1901 England. Lilian Delaney is an apprentice bookbinder in Oxford who feels stuck in the oppressive walls of her father's bookshop and the job she loves but knows is seen as a man's profession. While on a trip to collect a book to be bound, she is given a burned book and finds a letter hidden beneath the binding that sets her on a journey to uncover the mystery of the writer and their fate. But someone else wants those letters, and Lily may be in grave danger if she continues to try and find the rest of the books they are hidden in.
This was a bit of a slow start, but once the mystery started to unravel I couldn't stop reading - I just had to know what happened! I love a bit of romance in my historical fiction, and this gave it both through the mystery of the letters and the seemingly ill-fated romance they described, and through Lilian herself. Lily's journey across England saw her meet some interesting characters, and see some places she never would've otherwise. At times I was scared for Lily, but I admired her determination to solve the mystery not only to get answers for herself, but to try and see if she could help the original writer find some peace.
The ending of this made it seem like it may be the first in a series, and I will be eagerly looking to read the next if it is! I would recommend this if you like historical fiction with strong female characters that don't let the confines of society dictate their actions.
I really really enjoyed Kitchen Confidential. Some of it probably didnโt age well, but, it also felt like an honest retelling of those things - neither excusing nor celebrating them (much).
I like how Bourdain wrote this book after 20+ years as a chef who had โdone lots of stuffโ - but had no real notoriety. The notoriety came after the book. So again, it feels like a really honest story of someone who thought themselves unremarkable. A+
My son is 8 now and still loves the pigeon series. I'd love to order more from Book Hero. Not many bookstores have them in stock anymore.
Having just read This is Happiness by the same author (who I LOVE) I found time of the Child almost like a sequel as it tied of any loose ends from This is happiness. It gave closure and a follow up of what became of all the wonderful characters from This is Happiness. Two brilliant Nial Williams novels
Thank you Book Hero,
Lily Jones
This puzzle is gorgeous and Ravensburger are a quality brand. I really enjoyed putting this together. The image is clear and comes out beautifully. Highly recommend this one!
The bag is more of a plastic feel than a fabric feel, but the design is fantastic and the bag is quite roomy. Really glad I nabbed this when I got a chance!
I'll be honest, I got this as a giggle not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The quality of the items are actually fantastic and make it worth the price I paid. I got a variety of Wicked themed stationery items, magnets, friendship bracelet, pins, and stickers. The best item was the bookmark that has a bit of weight behind it!
Highly recommend for a Wicked fan.
Sorrowland is a dark tale which takes some unexpected turns. The main character sucks you in quickly but the pace of the story takes its time to build. My favorite part was the descriptions of the closest relationships the central character forms throughout the story and you find yourself drawn to them in the same way that Vern is.
A delightful cookbook suitable for young cooks. Recipes are ideal for young children's tastes.
A book well-deserving of all the praise and accolades it has received. A quiet story that immediately draws the reader in and maintains sympathy and interest till the last page. Lisa Ridzen was inspired by notes her grandfatherโs care team left the family as he neared the end of his life. This is a book you will remember.
I found both of these books really helpful - they are different in content and format and yet compliment each other well. Perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about reducing the anxiety and suffering caused by a busy brain, and anyone who struggles with decision making. These are short books but full of not just information but also practical tools and exercises.
This guide starts with some background psychology and philosophy around decision making and why it can be so hard, before moving into more of an exercise book format where you can work through different prompts related to how you make decisions, and how you can make them in a way that is more aligned and ease-ful. I really liked the combination of formats and found it useful navigating my own decision making.
This is a slim book and yet full of reflections and prompts to consider the role we play in our own suffering. Full of practical tips and exercises, Joseph Nguyen does a good job balancing the background theory and philosophy with ways to actually untangle your own thinking and regain the driver's seat of your life. I found this extremely helpful and one I will return to (it is full of tabs!).
โSeedโ, the book to the award-winning play from 2014, looks at the tricky question of the ticking biological clock through the eyes of four different women in different circumstances. The story covers unexpected pregnancy, fertility treatment, abortion, single parenthood, sperm banks and plenty more, exploring the many emotional facets around conception (or lack thereof), pregnancy and parenthood. The lives of our women weave together, told with plenty of humour. I enjoyed following their stories โ all four women find a place of content, which is not necessarily where they had seen themselves at the outset.
โThe Bell and the Bladeโ is a gripping epic, playing out in the final year of World War II in the less known setting of occupied Belgium. The story is easily as compelling as her earlier book โThe Bronze Horsemanโ, and I kept sneaking in a few more minutes of reading time every chance I got. Despite the often grim reality of war, there is always an undercurrent of humour and charm, and even the bad guys are given a rounded personality one could find sympathy for. The story twists around plenty unexpected corners and kept me enthralled to the end.
A Christmas gift for an inquisitive Grandson, he loved it! Great job Bookhero on getting it to Christchurch overnight.
This special edition is so beautiful! Definitely worth the extra money if youโre a fan.
