I went into this book blind other than the fact it was a new release that was almost instantly short-listed for some awards. What I found was a wonderful read that had cozy elements while dealing with some big real world parallels. This story is about making a safe place for yourself in a system that was not build for you and when fears about when people come from a place of hate, it's about internet culture where people can hide behind faceless accounts and spill bile into the world and its about how outside forces try to manipulate other places to be a worse version on themselves all while encompassing it in a heartfilled tale of self discovery, self worth, following passions and building a positive community
Purchased for my 8 year old daughter who had recently found a love of reading and this book has had her glued to every page
Even so she hides away at bed time reading with a torch.
Well written easy to read and great story plott definitely purchasing the next Volume
a lovely book for my grandson, you never tire of reading it.
A story of a terrible no good very bad year - but told so sweetly and gently it’s hard not to want to simply continue reading to find out what happens next. For lovers of the opposite of a rom-com, the warmth and solace of an empty house, and those who would rather ask “and then?” Instead of “why?”. A perfect rainy day read.
I read this book several times as a young teen, living a much similar life. A story of young teens , a boat, a river and an Island. Young teen gangs imagine themselves on opposing sides and live out a fantasy life in somewhat idyllic settings. I was bought up on a protected seashore with a shallow shelving beach and spent hours in a row boat exploring my world. I connected with this story.
I loved reading this biography from one of my all-time favourite actors - Anthony Hopkins. It was interesting to learn how he was not a high achiever at school, and how even as an adult actor he took a lifetime to overcome his anxieties and self-doubts - and his well documented struggles with alcoholism. It was surprising and fun to learn we have a shared admiration for stoic author Ryan Holiday, and a shared love of cats! Learning how he approached his mesmerising performance of Lector in Hannibal was fascinating to me - deliberately combining the emotions of "remote" and "awake" - a behaviour that triggered his fear of spiders as a young child. Reading this biography was a timely reminder that we're all imperfect and born with both natural gifts and limitations, and sometimes it's important to just put one foot in front of the other, or as Anthony would say "just get on with things".
Brilliant service and an exceptional voice. Buy it for every young woman who needs to remember their voice. Buy it from Book Hero because they’re efficient, well priced, and NZ based.
Walnut Tree Island sits in the Thames River and has been home for many over the years. At the centre of this story we have the Star's - Mary and her granddaughter Jo, who are fiercely protective of their little community. When their landlord dies and his son Oliver returns, things get stirred up. Jo hasn't seen Oliver since they were teens and spend a wonderful summer together, when he promised to return but never did. His return also makes Mary revisit her past, and her relationship with his grandfather George. Love affairs, secrets and community bonds make this book a love letter to the Thames and the people that call her home.
This was a great easy read, flicking between past and present so seamlessly. Mary's flashback chapters were a real highlight for me. I had no idea there were even islands on the Thames, so this was a really interesting look at what those look like and how they function. Walnut Tree Island is full of quirky characters that band together when it matters and take care of one another. It was wonderful to read a story about community and loving the place you call home.
Print quality is great, all lines are sharp and colours are beautiful. Pieces snap into place with a satisfying click and there is an interesting variety of shapes, no false fits. Moderate difficulty - throughly enjoyable build.
Ballantyne is a thought provoking writer with an eye for detail, thoroughly enjoyed his work
A delightful book. Part-reference, part-hilarious. Thoughtfully created with curious kids in mind.
Did not like this book at all. No substance. monosyllabic conversation. Book was written with no emotion. couldn't relate or like any character. A whole lot more emotion /feelings should have made this book a winner.
I grab med this because I needed a break for fast paced sci-fi for a while. It served the purpose well.
Great pace and original and enjoyable story.
I’ll definitely read the authors work again
The children at the kindergarten I work at love this book and it's a pleasure to read
My 6 yr old grandson loved his first sticker book of dinosaurs and asked for the dragon one.Absolutely loved it just as much, kept him occupied for ages.
Wow I loved this book! Kit is a great unreliable narrator and Sager's writing style kept me hooked all evening while reading it. Such fascinating twists and turns.
This was a fun and cosy read with lovable characters and an interesting plot. Great for someone who wants an easy and engaging read, I'd been ready a lot of heavy books recently so this was perfect!
Really enjoyed this book, Dan Jones writes history in a way that makes it entertaining and easy to digest. A great book for someone looking for a reader friendly leap into Templar history.
Very happy with the product. Fairly sturdy, engaging for my daughter who enjoyed putting it together and we love the lights that light up this Eiffel Tower. Very pleased with the quality and i was especially thankful for the overnight delivery so that we could get this in time for Christmas. Thank you Book Hero!
The mirror is a must. Read The Inheritance first as it sets the scene, the Mirror continues the epic story and then you will NEED the third The Three Rings!! Awesome story. Love Nora Roberts!
Great illustrations and message of sharing and friendship. The sparkly silver shoes were very appealing to my three year old granddaughter!
This is hands down the best book I’ve read on leadership and operating effectively in the workplace.
