The Whole-Brain Child: 12 revolutionary strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind
In this pioneering, practical book, Daniel J. Siegel, neuropsychiatrist and author of the bestselling book Mindsight, and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson demystify the meltdowns and aggravation, explaining the new science of how a child's brain is wired and how it matures
The Whole-Brain Child shows you how to cultivate healthy emotional and intellectual development so that your children can lead balanced, meaningful, and connected lives.
Are you often left bewildered by your child's outbursts or stubborn behaviour? Do you find it challenging to understand why they seem to act irrationally? The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind by esteemed neuropsychiatrist Daniel J. Siegel and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson provides enlightening answers to these common parenting dilemmas.
This groundbreaking and practical guide delves into the fascinating science of a child's brain development. It unveils the mysteries behind your toddler's tantrums, your preschooler's defiance, and your pre-teen's sulkiness. The authors explain that these behaviours are not a result of children conspiring to make their parents' lives challenging, but rather their developing brain exerting its influence.
Siegel and Bryson reveal that a child's brain is a work in progress. The 'upstairs brain', responsible for decision-making and emotion regulation, is not fully mature until the mid-20s. In young children, the emotion-driven right brain often holds sway over the logic-centred left brain. This can lead to the puzzling and sometimes exasperating behaviours parents regularly encounter.
The book provides a wealth of age-appropriate strategies to navigate these daily challenges, transforming potential conflicts into opportunities for brain integration and growth. By leveraging the latest research in neuroscience, the authors present 12 innovative strategies that foster healthy emotional and intellectual development. These strategies are designed to be easily incorporated into everyday parenting practices, helping you to cultivate a nurturing environment that promotes balanced, meaningful, and connected lives for your children.
With its clear explanations and practical applications, The Whole-Brain Child is not just a theoretical guide; it is a hands-on resource. To aid understanding and implementation, the book includes illustrations that demonstrate how to explain these concepts to your child. Whether you're dealing with a toddler, a preschooler, or a preteen, this book equips you with the tools needed to turn everyday situations into enriching, brain-moulding moments.
As Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence, praises, “Siegel and Bryson have created a masterful, reader-friendly guide to helping children grow their emotional intelligence. This brilliant method transforms everyday interactions into valuable brain-shaping moments. Anyone who cares for children – or who loves a child – should read The Whole-Brain Child.”
Embark on this enlightening journey with The Whole-Brain Child and discover the transformative power of integrating cutting-edge neuroscience with practical parenting techniques. Understand your child's mind, nurture their growth, and build a deeper connection that will last a lifetime.
