Yellowface
Yellowface by Rebecca F. Kuang is a gripping tale that unravels the dark underbelly of the literary world. When struggling writer June Hayward witnesses the untimely death of her successful rival, Athena Liu, in a freak accident, she seizes the opportunity to claim the success she feels she deserves. Desperate and jealous, June takes Athena's unpublished manuscript, a stroke of genius that could catapult her into the literary spotlight.
As June adopts Athena's voice and identity, the line between her own reality and the stolen life she presents to the world begins to blur. The acclaim and fame she always dreamed of come swiftly, but with them, a relentless tension. As whispers and suspicions grow, June's choices spiral into a web of lies, deceit, and moral ambiguity that threatens to unravel everything.
With meticulous and provocative storytelling, Kuang peels back the layers of ambition, race, and the ethics of storytelling in the competitive world of publishing. The novel not only entertains but also challenges the reader to consider who gets to tell certain stories and at what cost.
