The Textile Artist: Sculptural Textile Art
Part of the popular Textile Artist series, this book teaches the reader how to sculpt using wire; apply paper and fabrics to the frame, and decorate with embroidery stitch.
The Textile Artist: Sculptural Textile Art by Priscilla Edwards presents a refreshingly different approach to embroidery, elevating the art of stitch within wire sculpture to an impressive new level.
Priscilla's contemporary mixed media artworks blend both two- and three-dimensional elements, combining colour, stitch, shape, and texture. She layers these elements to transform surfaces into beautiful, whimsical sculptures full of character, curiosity, and charm. With an imaginative use of the needle and a love for retro vintage nostalgia, she captures an enduring trend while exploring excitingly different ideas and pushing the boundaries of her craft.
This book delves into a playful mixed media approach to creating 3D textile sculptures. It utilises various media to transform plain papers and fabrics through colour, texture, and mark-making, employing both free-machine embroidery and hand stitch. Readers are guided towards tackling the five projects included, which gradually increase in complexity.
