In Maybe, Perhaps, Possibly by Joanna Glen, the reader is transported to the evocative and tranquil setting of the tiny island of Rokesby. Here, Addie, who helps her mother run a women's retreat, finds herself yearning for escape. Her solace comes from the ocean surrounding the island, a vast expanse that fuels her dreams and offers a semblance of peace. Her life is disrupted when she meets Sol, a reclusive figure residing on the neighbouring island, connected to Rokesby by a bridge that only reveals itself during low tide.

Sol, who has sought refuge in a windswept prayer house, grapples with the aftershocks of his mother's death and a profound betrayal by his father. His reclusion is marked by a simple life indulging in birdwatching, reading books, and soaking in the ocean's symphony. Both Addie and Sol, introverted and bearing tempestuous pasts, find more comfort in nature than in human companionship.

Their chance sighting of each other in the wild challenges their isolated existences. As they navigate the complex path from their past lessons in love to the potential of a future together, the story delicately unravels themes of healing, connection, and the courage to open one's heart.

Maybe, Perhaps, Possibly stands as a beautifully observed and life-affirming novel by Joanna Glen, the Costa-shortlisted author of The Other Half of Augusta Hope and All My Mothers. It offers readers a poignant exploration of self-discovery and the transformative power of allowing oneself to be found by another.
