When a butcher reports to Detective Bart Moy that he may have witnessed the abduction of a small boy, a mysterious sequence of events is set in motion. Moy, newly returned to the country town where his ailing, cantankerous father still lives, can find out nothing about the apparent kidnapping; no-one in Guilderton appears to be missing a small boy.

However, once he starts looking into the butcher's story, Moy finds that he had a son once too... This is a moving and disturbing crime thriller reminiscent of James Lee Burke.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

One Boy Missing by Stephen Orr has been praised for its evocative depiction of Australian country life, offering a more contemplative take on crime fiction, focusing on relationships rather than just plot resolution. Critics appreciate the measured prose and strong characterisations, particularly the exploration of fathers, sons, and masculinity. The novel's introspective nature and Orr's attention to landscape and detail are highlighted as strengths, providing a refreshing twist on traditional crime narratives.
