Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke is a masterful thriller that transcends the genre. Ranger Darren Mathews is a tough, honour-bound character, profoundly alive in a corrupt world. 'I loved everything about this book,' remarks Ann Patchett.

In East Texas, law and order follow their own rules—a reality well-known to Darren Mathews, a black Texas Ranger navigating the backwoods towns of Highway 59. Deeply conflicted about his home state, Darren was the first in his family to escape Texas. Yet, duty has drawn him back.

When loyalty to his roots threatens his job, Darren heads to the small town of Lark along Highway 59. There, the murders of a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman have stirred a hornet's nest of resentment. Darren must resolve the crimes—and save himself—before Lark's long-standing racial tensions erupt.

'Locke's writing is both sharp-edged and lyrical. This is thoughtful, piercing storytelling with the power to transport.' —Diana Evans, Financial Times
