He died in exile.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eOvid's main surviving works include the \u003ci\u003eMetamorphoses\u003c\/i\u003e, a rich source of inspiration for artists and poets like Chaucer and Shakespeare; the \u003ci\u003eFasti\u003c\/i\u003e, a poetic treatment of the Roman year of which he finished only half; the \u003ci\u003eAmores\u003c\/i\u003e, love poems; the \u003ci\u003eArs Amatoria\u003c\/i\u003e, not moral but clever and in parts beautiful; \u003ci\u003eHeroides\u003c\/i\u003e, fictitious love letters by legendary women to absent husbands; and the sombre works written in exile: the \u003ci\u003eTristia\u003c\/i\u003e, appeals to individuals including his wife and the emperor, and similar \u003ci\u003eEpistulae ex Ponto\u003c\/i\u003e.
